The PEACE and PLENTY of our Good Shepherd

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd;  I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;  my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. 

Dear Parents:

We hope and pray that this devo is a helpful tool to connect your family in and through the Scriptures this week. Please be encouraged that, as it says in Isaiah 55:11, God’s Word will not return empty!

As you move through the study, feel free to cater it to your family.  No Bible study tool is perfect for everyone, but we hope this one can flex to meet your needs. If the only thing that happens this week is that you teach your kids how to look up Scripture references, then that’s worth celebrating!

Each study includes different sections for your family to connect with God’s Word through discussion, Scripture reading, or activities. It will help you to read ahead in order to know what is coming so you can be ready to make any adjustments to the questions or activities based on your family’s needs.

In this particular study, David celebrates knowing the characteristics, the power, and the unconditional love of God, His Shepherd. In many ways, God has given you your own flock in your children, so you have the opportunity to help them know you. Possibly the greatest thing that may come out of this study is your children watching you approach the Bible in humility and vulnerability and seeing the Word of God have a lasting impact on your life.  Don’t be afraid to be known by your children!

The reminder for us all from Psalm 23 is that we are lovingly known and sovereignly taken care of by our Shepherd as He guides and provides, leads and feeds, protects and directs.  This brings us the “cup of contentment” as an overflow of His peace, plenty and presence. We are never alone.

Know that we are praying for you and your family, and are excited about the changes that will take place in your lives by the power of the Holy Spirit and meditation on His Word!
